I have blogged in the past that while the motives of the villains are understandable, they are not excusable. The only ones who says otherwise are the villains themselves. The best examples that come to my mind are crimminal organizations such as gangs, mafias, and terrorists who see know wrong in the heinous crimes they commit and their mistreatment to other people. This brings me to the character I am bringing up in this post, Cruzer.
Something I have noticed that when it comes to races (not to name any race), people are taught on their struggles as minorities. Especially of those in history. While this may not be easy for people to admit, just because someone is poor or, oppressed, or in a lower class, does not automatically make them right. They are people, meaning they are capable of heinous actions, regardless of what they are.
This is the case with Cruzer. Although he is the father of Rick and Hana Cruzer, the book just calls him Cruzer. He is the Mob Boss the the alien syndicate, Galastar. Throughout the entire book, he had been leading an operation, building weapons to teat down the Earth Government and to find the identity of the Cyber Phantom, hoping to expose him as a human.
Now, it is established the Galastar suffers from being second class. However, Cruzer does not do Galastar any justice. He is aggressive, hostile, and war hungry. But worst of all, he mistreats his daughter, despite her helping him until she meets Paul. He may be fighting for the sake of his people, but his actions don’t make Galastar actually deserving of the change they seek. And Cruzer would only show more of his true self when he comes face to face with the Cyber Phantom.
More about Galastar will be talked about in future blogs. Until then, let me know what you think. What are your thoughts on villains that are understandable but not excusable? Was there more you think I should have added or expanded on about Cruzer? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments below.
